Understanding Your Horse and You

IMG_6811.jpg

As a professional horse trainer and instructor based in New England, Nicole has been working with horses for almost 30 years. Over the years she has developed a method of training horses and riders that is not about force, but is fun for all and blends traditional concepts with modern theories. She deeply values fostering a connection between horse and rider and strives to create a productive partnership between the two.

While working with all types of horses is her passion, her heart lies with the Morgan breed. This love began with her first horse when her trainer and mentor, Joanne Galvin, gave Nicole her first introduction into training the breed. From there Nicole went on to earn her Bachelor of Science Degree in Animal Science with a minor in Community Development and Applied Economics from the University of Vermont.

Upon her graduation in 2006, she began her professional career with horses. Nicole learned the fundamentals of Natural Horsemanship from Bri Gallo and Allia Hayes at Driftwood Stables, focusing on the importance of groundwork, scrutinizing the subtleties of a horse’s movement, and building a foundation of trust between horse and rider. From there she went on to become the Horse Specialist at the UVM Morgan Horse Farm, under the direction of Steve Davis, who has been one of her biggest supporters and mentors. There she focused on breeding and raising young stock, training horses for show and pleasure, and ultimately began her instructing career by teaching apprentices and new horse owners. After that she worked at Chrislar Farm, where Chris and Larry Cassenti have built an extensive boarding, training and lesson facility. In 2018 Nicole finally made her dream a reality and opened Serendipity Stables LLC and she is so excited to continue her work, to help horses and riders achieve their dreams!

About Nick

Nick's introduction to horses was spending time with his grandfather, who owned, trained and raced Standardbreds. His love for horses was instantaneous and while he went a big portion of his life without horses, he knew he would get back to it somehow. Fast forward to meeting his now wife, Nicole, and the rest is history! Nick enjoys learning all he can about the care and upkeep of all the horses on the farm and is a staple at horse shows cheering everyone on and chatting with everybody! His focus is to improve his riding and driving skills and get back in the show ring as well as help our fledgling breeding program continue to grow. He is always a student, taking lessons from his wife along with several other local trainers and is excited to see what the future holds for all of us here at Serendipity Stables LLC.
